 Chamsur palungo


chamsur palungo is a very popular vegetable in Nepal. It is usually eaten in winter season. Most Nepalese poeple eat it with rice and bread. People in the western part of Nepal often eat chamsur palungo greens with bread / roti (nepali food). Similarly, in the eastern part of Nepal or towards the capital, the greens of chamsur palungo are often eaten with rice or puri (nepali food).

Today I will teach you how to make chamsur palungo greens. Chamsur palungo contains a lot of vitamins and minerals. It is also very good and beneficial for our body.


You can easily make chamsur palungo greens at home. The way to make it is very easy and it makes it fast. You can make chamsur palungo using the method given below.

You need some ingredients as follow;


S. N.          Ingredients/Quantity 

1.                 Palungo(spinach) (1/2kg) 

2.                 Chamsur(1/2kg) 

3.                 Red chilli(2nos) 

4.                 Cumin(jeera) (5gm) 

5.                 Ginger and garlic paste(5gm) 

6.                 Oil(10ml) 

7.                 Fenugreek(3gm) 



Cooking method:

1) Heat oil in pan. 

2) Add fenugreek, followed by red chilli and cumin. 

3) Add ginger and garlic paste add chamsur, palungo and saute well. 


Second method

 In Nepali style

"Cooking method of chamsur palungo saag"


Step 1

Initially you wash the chamsur palungo (300gm) very well. Then examine it carefully. Then take a pan or kadhae (nepali rent). Put it on the flame and heat it. Add 2 tablespoons mustard oil or normal oil (the oil you have) to the pan / kadhae. 


Step 2

Heat oil, add two red chillies and 1tsp cumin seeds. Fry the peppers and cumin seeds till they turn brown (make sure your flame is medium). In this way, when the cumin seeds are browned, it makes the food tasty. Then add finely chopped 2pic garlic.Then fry it for a while. 


Step 3

Now cut 1 pic tomato on the dice and put it in it. Then add salt to taste and fry for a while. Then add chilli powder to taste. Now fry it well on low flame.Then add half a spoon of coriander powder. Now fry it on low flame for a while.


Step 4 

Now add half chamsur palungo in it. Now fry it for a while. Add the remaining chamsur palungo after reducing the greens. Now fry it for a while while running it.


 While cooking in this way, it reduces the greens. As the greens shrink, a little water comes out of it. Now after a while this greens can be cooked. 


If you like dry, you can boil it for a while to reduce the water.If you like to eat a little gravy, you can add a little water to make a little gravy. 


Note:Please check if it is cooked once before turning off the flame. If it is not cooked, you can cook it by adding a little water.
