Aloo cauli

Introduce 


Simply aloo cauli means aloo means potato and cauli means ofcoure cauliflower. Aloo cauli is a favorite of Nepalese and mine is very favorite. Aloo cauli is made from potato and cauliflower. Aloo cauli Potato and cauliflower are roasted and cooked. Aloo cauli vegetables are eaten by people from all over Nepal. aloo cauli is one of the favorite vegetables of Nepalese. It is very famous in Nepal as it is eaten from east to west of Nepal.

Where it is found in nepal? 

It is easily found in any part of Nepal like: Himal, Pahad, Terai, East and West. It is also known as the national food or vegetable of Nepal. In Kathmandu valley aloo cauli is available in abundance every season. The method of making it is very easy. Every mother in Nepal comes to make aloo cauli. 


(Simple braised potato and cauliflower curry) 

You will need the following materials to make it.

S. N.        Ingredients/Quantity 

1.              Cauliflower(1/2kg) 

2.              Potato(1/2kg) 

3.              Onion(50gm)

4.              Turmeric powder(5gm) 

5.              Cumin powder(5gm) 

6.              Coriander powder(5gm) 

7.              Salt(to taste) 

8.              Coriander leaf(for ganish) 

9.              Tomatoes(50gm) 



Cooking method

1) Heat pan sauté onion,tomatoes add potato, cauli, all spices and mix well. 

2) Add little water and cook for around 10 mins and after cook you aloo cauli was ready to eat.

Take a saucepan or kadhae (nepali equipment) and heat the oil in it. Then put the cauliflower in hot oil and fry the cauliflower till it turns light red. Once the cauliflower is fried, take it out in a pot. Now fry the potatoes in the same hot oil in the same way and take them out in a pot.


Now put some oil in the sauce pan and heat it. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon, green chilies, onion and fry well. After frying, add crushed ginger and garlic and fry. After frying it, add turmeric powder, chili powder, mixed of cumin powder, garam masala powder and salt to your liking and mix all well and fry and then add tomatoes and fry.


Now add the previously made fried cauliflower and potato and mix well. Now cook it a little bit. Then add water to it (add water according to how much gravy you want to make). Add chopped coriander leaves (optional). Now cook it well. Once cooked, you can eat it with your favorite food. I personally want to tell you to eat this aloo cauli with rice, roti, chiura because aloo cauli is very sweet with these foods.
