Introduce :

Gwaramari is called roundbread in english. In the Newari language of Nepal, Gwa means round and mari means bread. This food is given or eaten with milk, milk tea, black tea. It is much better with tea than milk. So most people eat it with tea. It is a special breakfast of Nepal's newari culture. It is also called newari breakfast.

Gwaramari is sometimes eaten with the main course or local food at weddings. It is famous in every district of Nepal. Gwamari is also known by a different name in the western districts of Nepal.

Gwaramari's recipe is believed to have been discovered by the newari community.It is believed to have originated from the newari community. 


It is the favorite breakfast of every newari or every Nepali especially those living in Kathmandu valley. It is slightly salty and delicious. In the western part, it is not salty but slightly sweetened. In the western part of Nepal, it is also called sailpuri, dubka. It looks like sailroti(nepali food). Its aroma is also very good.It can also be stored in the fridge for 1-2 days. 


You can make it at home in the following easy way. This method is the easiest, best and shortest.


(Soft seasoned dough kept overnight to slightly ferment then deep fried)

You need some ingredients for make this gwarmari recipe;as followed :


S. N.              Ingredients/Quantity 

1.                    Flour (300gm) 

2.                    Baking powder(1/2tsp) 

3.                    Ginger garlic paste(1 tsp) 

4.                    Salt(1/4tsp) 

5.                    Turmeric(optional) (a pinch) 

6.                    Cumin and coriander powder(1/2tsp) 

7.                    Oil to fry


Note:Before you make it, you have to add water to flour, mix it with other ingredients and cover it and keep it one overnight.Otherwise it may not be as good as expected.


Cooking method of gwaramari 

1) Make a very soft dough of ingredients with water. 

2) keep over night. 

4) fry at medium low heat making small balls.
